When comparing heated vests, you may see specifications such as 5V, 7.4V, 12V and different watt ratings. These numbers affect warmth, runtime and compatibility, but they should be read together rather than in isolation.
Volts versus watts
Voltage is the electrical pressure supplied by the battery. Watts describe how much power the heating elements use and convert into warmth. More voltage does not automatically mean a better vest; the design, heat zones and battery capacity all matter.
Common heated clothing voltages
- 5V: often used with USB powerbanks and lighter heated products.
- 7.4V: common for heated vests and jackets because it balances warmth and battery size.
- 12V: used in some higher-output or specialist systems.
Battery runtime
Higher heat settings use more watts and drain the battery faster. Lower settings extend runtime and are often enough once the body is warm.
Safety tips
- Use the recommended battery or compatible powerbank.
- Do not mix unknown chargers and cables.
- Do not use damaged connectors.
- Keep batteries dry and follow the product instructions.
